Grove set for Carrera Cup Asia appearance in Sepang

Stephen Grove will travel to Malaysia this weekend to race in the upcoming round of Porsche Carrera Cup Asia at the Sepang International Circuit.

Grove, who has spent his 2017 season tackling world renowned venues in one off appearances overseas, will race alongside Asia’s best young Porsche talents, as well as in front of Formula One teams on the Malaysian Grand Prix weekend.

The experienced racer’s previous cross continent expeditions include ‘a dream come true’ weekend at the glorious Spa-Francorchamps circuit, competing in the French Carrera Cup series, and an outing at Japan’s Fuji Speedway, as a part of the Carrera Cup Asia and Carrera Cup Japan joint round.

“I really enjoy these experiences and I’m excited for this weekend,” said Grove.

“Racing on world class circuits like Spa, Fuji and Sepang is unique, you spend time on the simulator practising, but when you arrive at the track; the corners have more camber than you expected, or the track surface has more grip.

“It’s those things that make it more immersive, and I can’t overemphasise enough the thrill and ability of being able to jump into a Carrera Cup car overseas and know how it performs, where all the buttons are and how to adjust the seats.

This weekend will not be Grove’s first visit to the Sepang Circuit, having raced there with Porsche Carrera Cup Australia when they teed up with the Asian championship back in July.

That weekend saw Grove qualify second in class, as well as taking the class round win on top of two individual race wins.

Considering he already has a number of laps under his belt, the Melbourne-based driver is looking to improve on his past performance, but also, just simply enjoy the weekend.

“The main thing will be to focus on the task at hand and doing my best in every session, but I am interested to see how far I’ve come since we visited Sepang in July with Carrera Cup Australia,” said Grove.

“Spa and Fuji were tremendous experiences and I’m sure this one will be no different.”

After Sepang, Grove will arrive back on home soil in Melbourne to gear up for the penultimate round of Carrera Cup Australia at Bathurst, which takes place the weekend directly after his Malaysian outing.
