Factory Porsche star and FIA World Endurance Champion Earl Bamber will race with Grove Motorsport at the Gold Coast Porsche Wilson Security Carrera Cup Australia finale.
Bamber, a Le Mans 24 Hours winner, will pilot the team’s second Gen2 Porsche Cup car, joining owner and two-time class champion Stephen Grove for the final round of the one-make series’ 2018 season.
The New Zealander has a strong alliance with the Grove Group, having twice raced and won Class B with the squad at the Bathurst 12 Hour.
Ever since, Grove and Bamber have kept strong ties, with the latter partnering Brenton Grove in the Dunlop Super2 Series at the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 this weekend.
The car which Bamber will steer at the Gold Coast features a red and white livery - similar to that which is debuting on Stephen’s car at Bathurst - with Grove backing, as well as the iconic Kiwi fern on the flanks and a cartoon sheep in front of the rear wheels.
Bamber will also be in action co-driving alongside Triple Eight Racing's Shane van Gisbergen in the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship Pirtek Enduro Cup decider on the Surfers Paradise streets as well as his Carrera Cup duties with Grove.
“It’s going to be really exciting, I can’t wait,” said Bamber.
“Obviously, it has been a long time since I’ve been in a Carrera Cup car, it’s going to be a bit of a challenge to adapt back to it.
“It’s completely different to the LMP1 [car], or the Supercar, or even the [Porsche 911] RSR, it’s quite different to that as well.
“I guess everyone will be expecting me to be up the front, so the pressure is on,” he joked.
“It’s awesome to join Grove Group again, they are a really great bunch of guys and girls and it’s incredible for them to give me the opportunity, so I can’t wait to share the weekend with Stephen - it will be fun.
“It will also be my first-time racing on the Gold Coast streets. I’ve watched the Supercars and Carrera Cup races on TV a few times, but I’m so pumped to be driving this year not only in Supercars co-driving with Shane [van Gisbergen], but also in Carrera Cup.”
The final round of the Carrera Cup Australia season on the Gold Coast takes place from October 19-21.
