An excellent drive has seen Brenton Grove score a fourth-place finish in the Dunlop Super2 Series Bathurst 250 mini-enduro with Triple Eight Race Engineering.
The 22-year old drove a superb race in his #10 Grove Hire Racing Holden VF Commodore having started the 41-lap encounter from seventh on the grid after a tricky qualifying session in changeable conditions on Friday.
After serving his compulsory pit stop on Lap 21 and a brief Safety Car period a few laps later which closed the gaps in the field, Grove sat a solid fifth place.
He gained a spot to fourth after maximising on another competitor’s mistake, holding his own under pressure in the closing stages.
Grove showed consistent pace throughout the race in the low 2min 8s, before turning up the wick with only a handful of laps to go and setting his fastest lap of the race on the penultimate tour — a 2:07.806s.
He took the chequered flag fourth in what was a double top five for Triple Eight.
Speaking after the race, Grove praised the efforts of the entire team including engineer John Russell for a flawless performance.
With the Bathurst result, Grove climbs to sixth in the Super2 Series standings on 786 points, within striking distance of fifth.
The Dunlop Super2 Series heads to the Sandown 500 for the penultimate round of the season from November 8-10.
BRENTON GROVE QUOTEBOARD:
“Really pumped after that race, to be honest. It was a hard race, it was really, really quick and the pace was fast so to be so consistent throughout the race and keep building on the cars in front was awesome. Fourth is a great result and it’s a real testament to all the effort the Triple Eight team has put in this year; massively proud of everyone at Grove Hire Racing. Every session this weekend we just kept building and we were able to close the gap. In the race, we were there or thereabouts; we worked hard and didn’t make any mistakes and were able to maximise on a couple of other people’s mistakes. But we maximised our own consistency too and managed to get a good result. I’m super happy about that.”
